Week 4 Dart Action

It was a real nail biter played at the Eagles Hall last Tuesday night when the Eagles Hall Double Eagles hosted the QB Legion Short Sighted Crew.  The home team Double Eagles started off strong, winning all three doubles matches.  The singles set wins see-sawed back and forth between the two teams leaving the score in favour of the home team at the end of the fourth set.  A whitewash in the fifth singles set pushed the Crew into the lead and, despite best efforts by the Double Eagles, wound up victorious at the end of the match.  Leading the wins for the Crew was a four-way tie with four wins each for Peter Bisiker, newcomer Mike Runsteader and captain, Don Punter.  Crew-member Kevin Martin pinned a 133 to gain the top score for the team.  Double Eagle captain, Toni Crompton, and Sue Barry led the wins for the home team, also taking out four of their six singles matches.  Toni also topped the scores for the team with a whopping 156, which put her on the Leader Board - #2 spot behind Sonja Twamley’s 171.

Getting together at the Qualicum Legion, the QB Legion Shooters welcomed the Parksville Legion Dart Legends to an evening of great darts.  Minus captain Lorraine Paquette, the five remaining Shooters picked up the slack and demonstrated the point that ‘it’s not what you throw in the middle, it’s what you throw in the end’. Most matches were close through to the end, with the Shooters picking off the double before their opponent.  Shooter Lee Page broke this season’s 180 cherry with not only one, but two 180’s by the end of the night.  He had a third but the last dart dropped out onto the floor before he could retrieve it.  Leading the wins for the Shooters, “Sarge” Thom Ford was undefeated in six matches, hitting scores of 126, 133 and 135.  Also undefeated, Larry MacDonald pinned the top score of 140x2, along with scores of 135, 119 & 100x2.  Leading the wins for the Dart Legends, captain Jolene Swanson and Ken Ermantrout snatched two wins each away from their competitors.  Ken and Rod Swindells share top score with a 116.

Illness and unexpected guests prompted the Eagles Hall Eagle Eyes to postpone their match with the Morningstar Triples at the Qualicum Legion last Tuesday night.  Hopefully, they will have more success scheduling a rematch than the Dart Legends and Respect-A-Bulls have been having.  Fortunately, it’s early in the season, so there is a bit of time to get caught up.

Taking over the boards at the Parksville Legion, The PV Legion Respect-A-Bulls hosted the current top team in the league, the Bristle Bashers to thirty-three games of darts.  The Bashers lived up to their names and smashed in more doubles per set than the Respect-A-Bulls.  The home team was fighting throughout the match with lots of ton-plus scores and newcomer Matt Shaw pinned a 152 to become the first Men’s High Score on the Leader Board.  Way to go Matt!  Leading the wins for the home team, Joltin’ Joe Fortune bested three of his six opponents and hit scores of 140, 111 & 100 in the process.  All five of the Bashers lost one match each, with Steve Collins topping the scores with a 131.  Looks like Steve might have had a fifteen/sixteen-dart match against Matt Shaw, since he scored 419 points in four trips to the oche before doubling out.

Filling up the boards at the Eagles Hall, the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows were home to the Eagles Hall X-Men for a rousing evening of chucking arrows.  The six X-Men were a force to be reckoned with as they doubled out twice as often as their worthy opponents.  Leading the wins for the Men, Jim Thompson was unstoppable in his five matches and topped the scores with a 140 along with six 100’s.  Duane Sharp nearly made the Leader Board with a 77 check-out.  Leading the wins for the Straight Arrows was a tie between Ron Keast and Mike Beno, both pulling three wins each away from their opponents.  Ron topped the scores for the team with a 140.
