It’s time to say goodbye to our rockstar spare, Ryan Denbigh, as he heads back home to Pemberton following his dad’s passing over the weekend. Our sincere thoughts are with him as he navigates his new normal.
Ryan showed up out of the blue on December 9th, and if you were lucky enough to have him spare for your team, you know he rarely missed a double and stacked up scores of 171 and 180 like it was nothing. If he weren’t a spare, he’d be perched near the top of the men’s leaderboard giving Larry MacDonald and Terry Strawson a run for their money, boasting an 83% win ratio.
Thanks for coming out and playing darts with us, Ryan. We’ll miss your friendly demeanor and your killer darts.
On a happier note, today (March 15th) is Hendrik Van Heerwaarden’s birthday. I will be honouring his birthday by referring to him as Hendrik for the next year. If people still don’t know who that is by then, I’ll go back to his more well‑known moniker — Harry.
Happy Birthday, Hendrik!
His & Hers Salon Darts of Hazzard vs. Eagles Hall Straight Arrows
Final Score: 18 – 15
Speaking of Hendrik, the His & Hers Salon Darts of Hazzard hosted the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows at their shared home venue and pulled off an upset victory on Tuesday night.
Heath Mahoney led the charge for the Hazzards, undefeated in six singles.
Brody Jenkinson backed him up with five wins.
Spare Randy Burrows snagged four wins and pinned a 140 in doubles for team high score.
For the Straight Arrows:
Roy Neill lost only to Heath in five trips to the oche.
Mike Beno contributed three wins and hit a 135, edging out Poul Reimer’s 133 to top the match’s high score list.
French Creek Pub Dart Vaders vs. Rotor Maxx Renegades
Final Score: 11 – 22
Over at the Parksville Legion, the Dart Vaders — with Ryan Denbigh in his final league appearance — hosted the Rotor Maxx Renegades.
A quick sidebar: the Renegades’ name has been spelled in more creative ways this season than I thought possible. I’ve corrected all past blogs to reflect the proper name: Rotor Maxx Renegades. If you spot any stragglers, let me know.
Back to the match:
The league’s number one team showed exactly why they’re on top, winning all but one singles set.
Larry MacDonald, top male player in the league, was untouchable in six singles and took the doubles with Rocky Paquette.
Thom Ford was doubling out like a machine until Donna Ermantrout handed him his only loss.
Our Liverpoolian hooligan, Terry Strawson, brought four wins and hit 100x2 and 140x3 (two in one game!) to top the night’s high score list.
Eagles Hall Double Eagles vs. Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples
Final Score: 14 – 19
Back at the Eagles Hall, the Double Eagles welcomed the Oceanside Triples for a tight, momentum‑swinging match.
The Double Eagles came out hot, taking all three doubles and the first singles set — but the Triples flipped the script with a whitewash second set and three more dominant sets to seal the win.
For the Triples:
Keith Reimer and Dynamo Denise Tabler each brought four wins in five singles.
Denise also soared to the top of the night’s scoreboard with a 140 and 100 against captain Toni Crompton.
For the Double Eagles:
Toni Crompton, Alan Barry, and Karen Bannister each won three of six singles.
Alan threw an impressive 156, earning top score for the night and a 5th‑place spot on the Men’s High Score leaderboard.
The Bashers vs. Eagles Hall X‑Men
Final Score: 18 – 15
Filling up the rest of the boards at the Parksville Legion, the Bashers hosted the under‑manned X‑Men in a match that stayed tight until the final two sets, where the Bashers pulled away.
For the Bashers:
Joltin’ Joe Fortune lost only to X‑Men captain Todd Burnham in six singles and hit 102, 117, and 133.
Tom Ayley pinned an 87 out, one point higher than his previous leaderboard score — leaving him in the exact same spot as before.
For the X‑Men:
Spare Jolene Swanson was the team’s top scorer (which tells you how off they were… lol), winning four of five singles and pinning a double‑nine in doubles.
Craig Dempsey and Fraser Vincent each brought three wins.
Captain Todd Burnham might have missed his doubles but he hit 100, 136, and 140 to take the night’s top high score.
