First, my apologies for being a little tardy in getting this blog posted! I was playing in the Money Shoot yesterday, and my celebrating got a little carried away well into the evening! What was I celebrating? I scored Ladies’ High Out with a 20 in my second winning match against the eventual second-place finishers, Rob Clark and Darcy Guenette. Not a bad way to wrap up the day!

Fourteen players showed up on a gorgeous, sunny Saturday to play SIDO 501 doubles at the Parksville Legion. Joining thirteen D69 Dart League members was Nanaimo player Ray Allen, who drove up from Nanoose for an afternoon of fun.

With six games in a round, we played through twice, finishing up around 4:30 p.m. A playoff for first place came down to Ray Allen and Pony Moore versus Rob Clark and Darcy Guenette. Ray and Pony popped in a double to end the match and claim the first-place pot of $90!

Rob and Darcy shared $52 for second place, while Heath Mahoney and Magi Trenholm pocketed $20 each for third place.

There were plenty of individual bragging rights up for grabs, too!

  • Snowball Winner: Heath Mahoney took home the $42 snowball for hitting his 85 score early in the afternoon.

  • Ladies’ High Score: Magi Trenholm pinned a 98 to claim the honours.

  • First 140: Vern Phillips scooped the first 140 of the day in his very first match, shutting out everyone else who also managed to hit one later!

  • Men’s High Out: Ken Hayes took the honours with a high out of 107, along with a 106 to boot!

  • Ladies’ High Out: Yours truly! I managed a 20 checkout in my final match of the day. And yes, that’s what I was celebrating!

A big thank-you to all fourteen players who came out to enjoy the afternoon with us. And a special thank-you to Michelle White’s lovely cheering squad for adding to the fun. Michelle’s mom even picked the snowball winner with style!

It was a beautiful day for darts, with good competition, great company, and a few extra reasons to celebrate.

Our next shoot will be the Turkey Shoot in December, which is open to D69 Dart League members only.

Until then, keep throwing those darts, and I’ll see you at the next shoot!

Now on to the highlights of the regularly scheduled matches last Tuesday night.

The Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples moved to their new home at the Eagles Hall following a schedule update to help balance the league’s venues. For their first match in their new surroundings, they welcomed the AMC Straight Arrows for 33 games of darts.

Unfortunately for the home team, the Straight Arrows wasted no time finding their mark! The visitors swept the first five sets before the Oceanside Triples managed to pull one set back. The Arrows then closed things out by taking the final set, capping off a strong performance on the road.

Leading the charge for the Straight Arrows was captain Rob Clark, who went undefeated in all five of his singles games. He had plenty of support from Alem Buyene-Clark and Mike Beno, who each contributed four wins to the team’s tally.

Rob also led the Arrows on the scoreboard with a team-high 140, followed by Paul Reimer with a 132 and Roy Neill with a 121.

The Oceanside Triples had some bright spots of their own, with captain Jim Hood, Keith Reimer, and Mike Blouin sharing the team lead with three wins apiece in their five singles games. Jim also showed off his scoring power, hitting a 140, a 120, and two 100s to claim the match’s high-score honours.

When the set points were tallied, the AMC Straight Arrows came away with a convincing 12–2 victory over the Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples.

A new venue, a tough opening challenge, and plenty more darts to come! Best of luck to both teams in their upcoming matches.

Final score Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples – 10, AMC Straight Arrows – 23

Filling the remaining boards at the Legion, the Rotor Maxx Renegades hosted the Parksville Legion Remark-A-Bulls and handed them a landslide defeat!

The Remark-A-Bulls got off to a promising start, winning two of the three doubles games. Joe Fortune then opened the singles with a win over Thom Ford, giving the visitors reason to feel optimistic. Unfortunately, the wins became few and far between after that!

Joe did manage to add two more victories, taking down Renegade George Wallis in the fourth set and Larry MacDonald in the fifth. Could his new Red Dragon darts be giving him an extra boost? Maybe, but Joe's a pretty good player anyway! RAB teammate Michelle White earned the only other point against the home team, besting George Wallis midway through the match.

After that, though, the Renegades took control and shut the door on any further Remark-A-Bulls success.

Captain Harry Ross kicked off the scoring highlights for the Renegades with a 132 early in the match, although it wasn't enough to get him to a double before his opponent checked out. Lee Page landed the first 140 of the night, and Larry MacDonald joined him with a 140 in his final match to share the team's high-score honours.

The Renegades also showed their strength in singles play, with three players going undefeated across all five games: Rocky Paquette, Terry Strawson, and Lee Page. Terry added another highlight in the doubles, pinning a 75 checkout. It wasn't quite enough to earn him a spot on the Leader Board, but it was an impressive finish nonetheless!

When the set points were counted, the Rotor Maxx Renegades secured a convincing 12–2 victory over the Parksville Legion Remark-A-Bulls.

The win keeps the Renegades firmly on top of the league standings for another week. The Remark-A-Bulls will be looking to bounce back, while the league leaders continue to show everyone why they're the team to beat!

Final score Rotor Maxx Renegades – 27, Parksville Legion Remark-A-Bulls – 6

Over at the Eagles Hall, the Eagles Hall X-Men hosted the Eagles Hall Darts of Hazzard in another classic example of winning more games but losing the match! The X-Men just couldn’t catch a break, dropping the first two sets before fighting back to claim the next two. It was shaping up to be a close contest, and it certainly delivered!

Leading the charge for the home team, Vern Phillips went undefeated in all five of his singles games and pinned a team-high 140. He edged past teammate Rob Sparrow, who put up an impressive collection of scores with a 134, 121, 116, and 107.

On the Darts of Hazzard side, captain Heath Mahoney was equally unstoppable, going unbeaten in all five of his singles games. And if that wasn't enough, Heath also threw not one, but TWO perfect scores throughout the night!

Congratulations, Heath!! 🎯🎯

With six players on each team, Vern and Heath didn't get the chance to face off against one another. What a showdown that might have been between two undefeated players! Perhaps we'll get to see that matchup another night.

Teammate John Coulter also had a strong showing for the Darts of Hazzard, hitting a 140 along with a 124, 120, and 100 to lead his team's scoring.

When the set points were tallied, the Darts of Hazzard had done just enough to sneak away with an 8–6 victory over the X-Men.

It was a close battle at the Eagles Hall, with individual performances to celebrate on both sides. The X-Men may have won more games, but the Darts of Hazzard won the points that mattered most!

Final score Eagles Hall X-Men 17, Eagles Hall Darts of Hazzard – 16

Also playing at the Parksville Legion, the Legion Bristle Bashers welcomed the Legion Short Sighted Crew for 33 games of darts at the oche.

The Crew got off to a strong start, taking two of the three doubles games, but then seemed to lose sight of the target! The home-team Bashers seized the opportunity and swept the next four sets with scores of 4–1, 5–0, 5–0, and 4–1. That’s quite a turnaround!

Leading the charge for the Bristle Bashers, Ken Hayes defeated all six members of the Crew, while newcomer Rob Deal had an impressive debut, losing only to Don Punter and adding five wins to the home team’s tally.

Ken also earned himself a spot at the top of the Men’s High Score Leader Board, firing a 174 in his match against Crew member Ken Ermantrout. That’s a mighty fine score to put on the board!

For the Short Sighted Crew, Jeff Rhode led the way with three wins in five games, losing only to Ken and Rob. Don Punter topped the team’s scoring with a 133, while captain Peter Bisiker added a 100 and a 121 to his tally. Peter also showed his finishing skills by checking out 66 against the Bristle Bashers’ newest recruit, Magi Trenholm.

When the dust settled and the set points were counted, the Parksville Legion Bristle Bashers claimed a convincing 10–4 victory over the Short Sighted Crew.

The Bashers certainly found their range after that early wobble, while the Crew will be hoping to sharpen their aim for the next round. Great darts all around at the Legion!

Final score Legion Bristle Bashers – 23, Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew – 10
