Juggling nine teams into one single venue on two nights is no easy feat, but most of the league has come to grips with this short-term solution, finding spares or playing with fewer players to make it work for the evening.  Obviously, we all want to play on a Tuesday night only, nobody likes change – especially old dart players – but sometimes we have to do what we don’t prefer to make it work for the team.  Fingers crossed that the Parksville Legion is finished their renovations by the first week of October, they we won’t have to continue this mild inconvenience for much longer.

Leading the week, the Rotor Maxx Renegades hosted the Eagles Hall Double Eagles to a very lopsided match of darts.  Skill overshadowed attitude with the Double Eagles, Pat Bannister being the only Double Eagle to score a point off the opponents.  Pat and his partner in darts and love, Karen, found a double out against Renegades’ George Wallis and Larry MacDonald.  While I’m sure every match was well-played by both teams, the overwhelming wins went to the raiding Renegades.  Half way through the match, Pat toed up to the line and doubled out against the heretofore undefeated Rocky Paquette.  Way to go Pat!   Top score of 140 for Terry Strawson, who hit two in the same game, along with scores of 123, 121 and 100x3.  Pat was not only the sole scorer for the team, but also the high scorer, hitting a 111 & 126.

Final score Rotor Maxx Renegades – 31, Eagles Hall Double Eagles – 2

Playing alongside this unprecedented match, The Bashers hosted the Oceanside Triples to a hair-splitting match of darts.  The scores were even throughout the entire match, with each team alternating wins for the set, until the final set when newcomer, Jim McArthur, put the winning double into the board for the Triples.  The Oceanside Triple’s team captain was on fire Tuesday night.  Jim Hood topped the wins for the team with another four out of five wins and team top scores of 133 and landed on the Leader Board with a 95 out in his match against Basher Harry Ross.  Leading the wins for the home team Bashers, Joe Fortune led the charge with four wins in five matches, along with garnering the team high scores of 100x2 and 121x2.

Final score The Bashers – 16, Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples – 17

Wednesday night brought out the French Creek Pub Dart Vaders and the Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew to the Eagles Hall.  Taking the lead early, the home team won all three doubles matches and four of the following six sets to best their opponents.  Leading the wins for the Vaders, Ken Hayes lofted his doubles in before all five of his opponents.  Topping the team scores, Steve Collins pinned a 140 and captain Dave Edwards right behind him with a 139.  Over on the other team, Peter Bisiker and Mike Rudstedler lead the defense, besting four of five Vaders at their turns on the oche.  Captain Don Punter hit his favourite 133, and won three matches, to top the scores for the Crew.

Final score French Creek Pub Dart Vaders – 19, Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew – 14

Eagles Hall Straight Arrows rounded out the week with a match against the short-handed Eagles Hall X-Men.  With the addition of two new, and apparently skilled, players the Straight Arrows made short work of the X-Men, winning all but one set to emerge victorious at the end of the match.  Leading the wins for the home team, Mike Beno and Rob Clark lost a single match each.  Ron Keast topped the Arrow’s team scores with a 111 against new X-Men Craig Dempsey.  Craig returned the favour for the X-Men by pinning a 127 and co-captain Pony Moore and spare, Jolene Swanson, lead the team wins with three each.

Final score Eagles Hall Straight Arrows – 23, Eagles Hall X-Men – 10
