Six weeks into the season, we are still playing at the Eagles Hall on two nights a week.  This is likely to continue for one more week as we learn the Parksville Legion is very nearly completely renovated.  Again, all captains will be given official notice to move to the Legion when it becomes official.

Plaque medallions were distributed to teams this week, finalizing last season's memento. If you did not receive a dart board medallion for your 2024-2025 plaque, please contact Thom Ford.

Starting off the week at their home venue, the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows hosted the Deep Bay Consulting’s Oceanside Triples to a closely matched night of darts.  The home team bested two out of three doubles but stalled through to the third set when they found their groove and marched onward toward an eventual win.  Displaying team sport mentality, the five regular Straight Arrows – Mike Beno, Poul Reimer, Ron Keast, Rob Clark and Roy Neill – welcomed new league spare Maggie Trenholm (two wins on her debut) – and all won three of their five matches.  Topping the scores for the Arrows, Mike Beno pinned a 133, naturally, as he favours the 19’s.  Deep Bay Consulting’s Oceanside Triples Captain Jim Hood, and co-captain, Keith Reimer, tied for top score offering four wins in five matches to the total score.  Keith also shot to the top of the Leader Board with an impressive 174, leaving only one score possible to best his first place position.  Jim Hood nudged the Leader Board requirements with a high out of 80.

Filling up the remaining boards on Tuesday night, The Bashers welcomed the Eagles Hall Double Eagles to the oche for an overwhelming victory for the home team.  Displaying their skill at pinning a double first, the home team won two of three doubles before besting their opponents in all six singles sets.  Three Bashers – Captain Don Enockson, Joe Fortune and Tom Ayley - were undefeated in their five singles games. Topping the scores, Harry Ross hit a 117 in his winning match against Double Eagle Alan Barry.  The Double Eagles faced their opponents bravely, but unsuccessfully, with DE Colleen McNeill being the top scorer with two wins in five matches.  Captain Toni Crompton and Uber-Cute Karen Bannister may not have stormed the doubles, but they pinned top scores of 135 and 134 respectively.

Final score The Bashers – 27, Eagles Hall Double Eagles – 6

Wednesday night offered up two similarly scored matches, one between the His & Hers Salon Darts of Hazzards and the French Creek Pub Dart Vaders, in which the home team crashed over the finish line just ahead of their opponents.  The Vaders could have been victorious were it not for a sixth set slaughter (4 to 1) by the Hazzards as The Vaders had won all singles sets up to that point.  Leading the wins for the Hazzards, Captain Harry Vanheerwaarden and John Coulter lost only to Vader Steve Collins.  John and Heath Mahoney shared a high out of 72, not enough for the Leader Board, but a good effort nonetheless.  Dart Vader’s Steve Collins was the team star of the night, not only winning five of five singles, but also topping the scores with a Mike Beno approved 133 in his match against John Coulter.  Maggie Trenholm, playing a second night in a row, sparing for the Vaders. Filling the roster but unfortunately not the scoreboard, her beginner’s luck seemingly worn off on Wednesday, as she pulled a goose egg by the end of the match.

Final score His & Hers Salon Darts of Hazzard – 18, French Creek Pub Dart Vaders - 15

Bringing up the rear for the week’s matches, The Renegades were certainly not at the back of the standings, although this is now the smallest win they’ve acheived o date.  Captain-less again this week, half the Renegades may have lost their rudder, leaving Larry MacDonald and Terry Strawson to bring the majority of the wins – five each – in six singles games.  Each week I report that team top score for the Bashers goes to Terry Strawson with a 140, and this week is no different, although Thom Ford came close with a 136.  Their venerable opponents, the Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew, stood firm at the toe-line, winning two of the doubles and two of the six singles sets.  Captain Don Punter and Jeff Rhode bested four of the Renegades in their six singles.  Crew member, Peter Bisiker, wowed his opponent, Thom Ford, with a whopping 133, scored not once but twice, in the first singles match.  Wonder if this shellacking by Peter set the tone for Thom, as he uncharacteristically lost another three matches after that.  We’ll al just wonder if that is the key.

Final score Roto Maxx Renegades – 18, Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew – 15
