Playing at the Eagles Hall, two of the three Eagles teams met for a challenging night of darts.  The Eagles Hall X-Men played home to Magi’s DartMares away status.  Confusion over team rotation rules resulted in the home team rotating six players and the away team in a straight six rotation.  Either way, every player played their opposing team players just once.   Taking the lead early, the experienced X-Men didn’t give the newcomers any leeway, winning twice as many games as the DartMares.  Wins for the X-Men was a three-way tie between captain Todd Burnham, Glen Dilworth and Rob Sparrow.  Glen joined George Wallis at the top of the Leader Board, hitting his own 171 in his losing match against Deiter Meren.  Way to not be intimidated Dieter!  Leading the wins for the DartMares, Darcy Guenette lost only to Rob Sparrow in his five trips to the toe-line.  Dieter had a high score of 124, while captain Magi Trenholm hit a 132, but it was Darcy who landed a 140 to top the scores for the team.  Set points resulted in 10 – 4 for the Eagles Hall X-Men.

Final score Eagles Hall X-Men – 22, Eagles Hall Magi’s DartMares – 11

Playing to the left of this, the Eagles Hall Darts of Hazzard hosted the Rotor Maxx Renegades and received a walloping by the top team in the league.  Darts of Hazzard’s John Coulter and Brody Jenkinson stepped up and took two wins each from the rampaging Renegades.  Brody was also the team high scorer, hitting three scores of 100, two in the same match.  Leading the wins for the Renegades, Larry MacDonald was successful against his five opponents and pinned two 140’s to top the team scores for the night. Captain Lorraine Paquette had an impressive 92 check out, but since she’s already done better than that with a 101 out the previous week, she won’t be on the Leader Board again this week.  Set points resulted in 14 – 0 for the Rotor Maxx Renegades.

Final score Eagles Hall Darts of Hazzard – 6, Rotor Maxx Renegades – 27

Playing at the Parksville Legion, the Legion Remark-A-Bulls joined the Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples at the oche for a zig-zag match of darts.  Leading the wins for the home team, Tom Ayley was unbeatable in his six singles matches and joined the Leader Board for the first time this season by pinning a 168 in his match against Triples’ Mike Blouin.  The Oceanside Triples’ Jim McArthur and captain Jim Hood, along with Dynamo Denise Tabler, tied for most wins with three apiece.  Keith Reimer landed both a 100 and 140 in his only winning game of the night against Michelle Gummeson to earn the high score of the night.  Set points resulted in 8 – 6 for the Oceanside Triples.

Final score Legion Remark-A-Bulls – 18, Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples - 15

This match is a prime example of how a team can win more games and still lose the match under our new set points scoring system.  The Remark-A-Bulls lost the doubles set, won the first singles set and two more after that, garnering 18 wins overall, but lost the match because they only amassed six set points as opposed to the Triples eight set points and 15 wins. This is the first of what I am sure will be many mismatched results.

Also playing at the Parksville Legion, the Legion Short Sighted Crew met with the AMC Straight Arrows for a closely played and well-fought match of darts.  Set wins alternated between the teams with the match being at 16 to 12 as the final set began.  A final push by the away team added only 1 win to the Crew’s total, but 4 wins for the Straight Arrows.  Crew captain, Peter Bisiker, bested all but Mike Beno in six trips to the oche.  Team mate Mike Runstedler produced four wins in six games and topped the team scores with a 140 in his winning match against Roy Neill.  Straight Arrows captain Rob Clark and Mike Beno once again shared the top wins for the team, both losing only one game in five.  Rob also topped the scores with a 140, putting Ron Keast’s 138 into second position, and had a trifecta when he checked out an impressive 109, earning him his first entry onto the Leader Board.   Set points resulted in 8 – 6 for the Legion Short Sighted Crew.

Final score Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew – 17, AMC Straight Arrows – 16
