After a three week break to celebrate Christmas, the league reconvened on the first Tuesday of the new year.  Playing at the Eagles Hall, the Eagles Hall Double Eagles hosted the Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples to a rousing match of darts.  The home team stumbled in the doubles matches, only winning one of three, before establishing a foot-hold against their opponents.  Dominating in four of the first five singles sets, a last-minute push by the Triples put them over the finish line by one point.  Triples Captain, Jim Hood, led the charge against the Double Eagles, winning four of his five singles games.  Triples dynamo, Denise Tabler, pinned a 121 in her match against Double Eagle, Colleen McNeill to achieve team top score for the night.  Leading the wins for the Double Eagles, Captain Toni Crompton and Karen Bannister were on fire, besting four of their five opponents.  Double Eagle Alan Barry also scored a 121 as team high score in his match against Triple Mike Blouin.

Playing out of the Parksville Legion, the French Creek Pub Dart Vaders welcomed five-strong Roto Maxx Renegades, as Captain Lorraine Paquette was stuck in traffic when the match commenced. The also five-member home team put their best darts forward, chipping away points from the top team in the league.  However, the top team bested their opponents in all but one set, handing them a whitewash mid-way through the match to establish their dominance.  Leading the wins for the Renegades, Larry MacDonald, doubled out first in five of his six singles games.  Teammates, Terry Strawson and George Wallis, topped the scores for the night both hitting a 133.  Dart Vader’s Warren Potter lead the wins for the home team, defeating four of his five opponents in six matches.  Vader’s Steve Collins set the bar high, pinning a 133 in his winning doubles match.  Steve went on to win another three matches in the six subsequent sets.

Filling up the rest of the boards at the Eagles Hall, the His & Hers Salon Darts of Hazzard hosted the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows to a thrilling match of darts.  The home team Hazzards played their best but the Straight Arrows pulled ahead in the first half of the match.  The Hazzards rallied and narrowed the points gap in the second half of the match, with the win by Arrow’s Roy Neill over Harry Van Heerwaarden sealing the match win for the away team.  Hazzard’s Brody Jenkinson is having an amazing streak of wins, losing only two games since November 18th, one of them to Arrow Rob Clark this past Tuesday night.  Rob Clark, the newly christened captain of the Straight Arrows as Sonja Twamley has retired her position to become team spare instead, led the wins for the team, losing only to Hazzard’s John Coulter, bringing five points to their night’s total.  Teammate Mike Beno pinned a 133 in his winning match against Hazzard Heath Mahoney.  John Coulter and Brody Jenkinson topped the wins for the Hazzards, both losing only one match in five, with Brody pinning a 140 in the final match of the night to top the team scores too.  Two of the Hazzards earned their first Leader Board scores of the season on Tuesday. Heath Mahoney doubled out a 98 against Roy Neill and John Coulter bested Rob Clark with an 89 out, both joining the large group of men who have high outs over 80 this season.  Congrats gentlemen, nice darts!

Over at the Parksville Legion, the Basher’s welcomed the Eagles Hall X-Men for a fun night of darts.  The matches were close, both teams putting their best darts in the board as they battled for the match.  The lead ping-pong back and forth between the two teams, but two 4-1 wins for the X-Men propelled them into the lead in the final set of the match.  Five of the six X-Men shared the top number of wins, three in five, and Captain, Todd Burnham, pinned a 123 in his match against the Basher’s newest addition, Maggi Trenholm.  Leading the wins for the seven Bashers, Joltin’ Joe Fortune and Rob Shaw shared the top spot, both winning three of their singles set – Joe losing only one in four and Rob two of five.  Basher’s Michelle Gummeson hit a 126in her winning match against X-Men’s Rob Sparrow to earn top score for the team.

Final score The Bashers – 15, Eagles Hall X-Men – 18
