Week 15 Dart Action

Joining the Qualicum Beach Legion B-Sharps for thirty-three games of darts, the Parksville Legion Shooters stumbled during the first singles set, but quickly regained their composure to overtake the home team for the remainder of the match. Captain Lloyd Ausland joined league No. 1 player, Larry MacDonald, in winning all five of his matches. High scorer, Rocky Paquette, topped the scores with a 140 and two wins for the night. Solid playing from Lorraine Hopps, George Wallis and Thom Ford supported the teams’ wins of 23 to 10 wins for the B-Sharps. Recently returned B-Sharp Stan Foster topped the wins for the home team – 3 of 5 matches, while Arless McNeill shot a 138 and garnered 2 wins in 5 singles matches.

Also playing at the Qualicum Beach Legion, rival Qualicum Legion teams Bulls Hitters and Short Sighted Crew met for a neck and neck match. The Crew started off solidly, but a whitewash in the 4th set by the Bulls Hitters, brought the match to an even 9 – 9. Winning match for match until the final game, it was the win by Crew’s Lee Page vs. Peter Spinks that put the Crew ahead. Final score Short Sighted Crew 17 – Bulls Hitters 16. Leading the wins for the Crew, Lee Page missed a finish in only two of his six matches and topped the scores with no less than THREE 140’s. Topping the wins for the home team, Bulls Hitter spare – Joe Fortune – proved his name by winning four of his five singles matches and hitting team high score of 140.

Home venue was the scene for a match between the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows and the Toolshed Triples. Leaping out of the gate, the Straight Arrows ran away with the wins from the doubles on, letting the Triples take only 10 points away from their wins. Top wins for the Arrows was a three-way tie between Captain Sonja Twamley, Mike Beno and John Curtis, all winning four of their five matches. Both spares for the Arrows – Shane Ovington and Rod Twamley - threw some impressive scores, throwing 112 and 120 respectively. Leading the wins for the Toolshed Triples, Darren Tabler took four wins in five matches away from the home team, while wife, Denise Tabler, topped the team high scores with 102 and 111. Final score – Straight Arrows 23 Toolshed Triples 10.

Keeping the Parksville Legion hopping, the Comfort Group X-Men hosted the Cascadia Bristle Bashers for a fast-paced night of darts. A slow start by the Bristle Bashers resulted in an evenly won match by the end of the 4th set. Alternating wins from both teams no doubt led to some nail biting moments on the part of scorekeeper Mike Driscoll. It was the final match of the night between Todd Burnham and Warren Potter that decided the win for the Comfort Group X-Men – final score Comfort Group X-Men 17 – Cascadia Bristle Bashers 16. Todd Burnham was on fire, winning five of his six matches, followed by solid support from Captain Pony Moore and Glenn Dilworth, who added four wins each to the team total. Glenn also topped the scores with a 140. Cascadia Bristle Basher Steve Collins led the wins for the away team – five of six games to his credit. A high check out of 100 landed Steve squarely in the middle of the league high outs for this season. Team mate Warren Potter topped the high scores with a 112 and contributed three wins in six matches to the final tally.
