Following a week off to commemorate and remember all remaining and fallen soldiers of the World Wars, and I’m curious if anyone spent some time watching the darts at the Parksville Memorial Tournament on the following weekend. I saw from the registration sheets that not one member of D69 dart league participated, which might be a first or maybe just a continuing trend in the past few years since Covid. Comments from participating players from other leagues indicated it was a fun, successful event and they will be returning for future events. With all our new young players, maybe we need to start grooming them to participate in this local tournament in the coming years. Let’s get some local representation!!

Playing at the Parksville Legion, The Bashers hosted the Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew to seven sets of darts. The away Crew took two of the three doubles in the first set but failed to continue that domination through the rest of the six singles sets. Inching the wins by one extra per set, The Bashers ended victorious by the end of the game. It was a three-way tie of four wins in five singles for Joe Fortune, Michelle Ummeson and Rob Shaw. Joltin’ Joe also pinned the team high score of 140 in his winning match against Crew’s Captain Don Punter. Leading the wins for Short Sighted Crew, Peter Bisiker was undefeated in his five singles games. Jeff Rhode scored a 105 to top the points for the team in one of his two winning matches.
Final score The Bashers – 19, Parksville Legion Short Sighted Crew – 14

Failing to gather enough registered team players, the His & Hers Salon Darts of Hazzard decided to postpone their match with the Deep Bay Consulting Oceanside Triples, rather than take a chance with a spare player on the roster. Also failing to advise the statistician, it was just happenstance that I was at the Eagles on Tuesday and asked why there were only two teams. This is a gentle reminder to all team captains that it is your responsibility to advise the appropriate executive of a postponed match to avoid team point demerits for a late sheet submission. This match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, November 26th. Thank you for the heads up, Darts of Hazzard, looking forward to receiving that scoresheet on Wednesday.

Spreading out onto three boards, as they were the only two teams in the Eagles last Tuesday, the Eagles Hall X-Men hosted the Eagles Hall Double Eagles to a swift defeat. Despite a two-to-one win for the Double Eagles in the doubles set, the home team X-Men quickly rallied and dominated the remaining six singles sets, finishing with a whitewash in the final set. Leading the wins for the X-Men, Captain Todd Burnham and Glen Dilworth were unstoppable with their doubles, winning all five of their matches. Team mate, Craig Dempsey, was landing lots of high scores – 121 and 133 – but it was Glen who achieved the highest score – 152 – in his winning match against Double Eagle Colleen McNeill. Leading the wins for the Double Eagles, Karen Bannister and Alan Barry pulled two wins each away from the marauding X-Men. Alan also topped the team scores for the night with an impressive 121, was that a single missed dart at a 180 or another combination of scores to get 121, I can only guess. Knowing Alan, I guess it was two triple 19’s and a single 7. Either way, nice darts Alan!
Final score Eagles Hall X-Men – 24, Eagles Hall Double Eagles – 9

The third completed match of the night was played at the Parksville Legion and must have been a humdinger to watch. Both teams boast excellent players, but it was The Renegades who doubled out first in all but seven of the games. Leading the wins for the Renegades, Terry Strawson, back to his usual form, was undefeated in six singles games and team mate, Larry MacDonald, joined him on the podium for wins with six successes of his own. Renegade George Wallis almost made a second appearance on the Leader Board with a 79 check out in one of his four successful matches. Terry joined George Wallis as the only other member to hit a perfect score this season – 180 – in his match against Straight Arrow Ron Keast. Leading the wins for the Straight Arrows, Roy Neill bested three of his six opponents. Team mate, Shane Ovington, might not have doubled out against any of his adversaries, but he landed some excellent scores in his six attempts – 125 and 137 – to top the team’s high scores for the night. Way to fight Shane!
Final score Roto Maxx Renegades – 26, Eagles Hall Straight Arrows – 7
