Round One Final Week Dart Action

Writer: Jolene SwansonJolene Swanson

The final week of Round One play is a bit out of synch because Week 16 got pinned on the end of the schedule due to snow.  Regardless, we have eighteen weeks of play completed and Round Two is five weeks long before the five-weeks of tournaments begins.

The Eagles Hall Double Eagles hosted the Parksville Legion Dart Legends to a fun night of darts at the Eagles Hall. The home team did well enough in the doubles matches, but failed to maintain that traction throughout the singles matches.  Colleen McNeill, Karen Bannister and Alan Barry won two matches each in their five singles and Alan pinned a 162 to top the scores and bump himself up two spots on the Leader Board.  Leading the wins for the Dart Legends, Rod Swindells, functioning on a few hours sleep after a long flight home from Asia, and Ken Ermantrout were undefeated in their six singles matches.  Rod also topped the team scores with a 105.

Playing at the Parksville Legion, the home team Respect-A-Bulls hosted the QB Legion Short Sighted Crew to thirty-three games of darts.  Despite a late match surge in wins, the Crew were not able to fend off the Respect-A-Bulls by the end of the match.  Leading the wins for the Bulls, Joltin’ Joe Fortune and spare, Harry Ross, both brought four wins in six singles to the team total.  Tom Ayley had a 133 score in the first singles set, setting the bar high for top score, but Joe pinched the top spot hitting a 134 near the end of the match.  Leading the wins for the Crew, Captain Don Punter defeated all his opponents save one in his six trips to the toe line.  Crew member Jo Metz hit a 105 in her match against Harry Ross to achieve top score for the team.

Playing at the boards next to the bar, the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows hosted the Eagles Hall Eagle Eyes to a spirited night of darts.  The match was almost tied prior to the playing of the final set of singles, but a determined show of skill by the Straight Arrows cinched their win.  Leading the wins for the home team, Mike Beno and Poul Reimer were both undefeated in their five singles games.  Paul wasn’t only shooting doubles well, he hit scores of 121, 113 and 100 to earn high scorer for the team on Tuesday.  Leading the wins for the Eagle Eyes, John Coulter and Heath Mahoney were first to the double in three of their five matches.  Heath also topped the scores with a 120, 117, 103, 101 and 100 throughout the match.

Playing at their home venue, the QB Legion Shooters hosted the top team in the league, Bristle Bashers, to a fast-paced night of chucking arrows.  It was a close match for the first five sets of singles, with the Shooters slightly ahead.  A final set sweep by the Bashers (4 wins) pushed the Bashers to one point ahead of their opponents by the end of the match.  Leading the wins for the Shooters, Thom Ford lost only to Terry Strawson in his five trips to the oche.  Lee Page topped the scores for the Shooters, hitting a 140 and 100x4 throughout the match.  Leading the wins for the Bashers was a three-way tie for Terry Strawson, Ken Hayes and Ryan Lane, all winning four of their five singles matches.  Ryan has added his name to the list of Perfect Scores for the season, hitting a 180 during his winning match against Rocky Paquette.  Terry Strawson also topped the scores for the team hitting a 140, 125x2, 121x2 and 100x3.  Yikes!

Filling up the rest of the boards at the QB Legion, the Morningstar Triples hosted the Eagles Hall X-Men to a well played match of darts.   The match was tied at the end of the fifth singles set, when the X-Men flexed their super-powers and doubled out four games in the final set to secure their win.  Leading the wins for the Triples was a tie between Keith Reimer and Jim Hood, each winning four of their five singles.  Jim had a 73 out during the match and Keith topped the scores with a 138 in his winning match against X-Men’s Rob Sparrow.  Captain of the X-Men, Todd Burnham led by example and won five of his six singles matches.  Team mate Pony Moore pinned a 140, 121 and 100 to top the scores for the team.
